DANCE PROGRAMS

BREAKIN' @ THE TIN SHED

Breakin' @ The Tin Shed is one of L2R’s flagship programs, which has grown from the well-attended weekly workshops held in Braybrook, Sunshine and now, St. Albans since 2012.

Breakin' @ The Tin Shed is a program of weekly breakdance workshops for culturally and linguistically diverse, newly arrived and/or at-risk young people from Melbourne’s West that aims to provide a unique ‘safe-space’ for self- expression, confidence building and skills development, while developing a connection to their community and peers.

Breaking @ The Tin Shed is one of L2R’s flagship programs, which has grown from the well-attended weekly workshops held in Braybrook, Sunshine and now, St. Albans since 2012. A key strength of the program is the high-quality and long engagement with the youth participants, who access the workshops each week.

This meaningful engagement enables L2R staff to develop trust and open communication with participants, enabling staff to identify participants’ needs beyond the dance studio.  Currently approx. 20 participants access B@TTS on a regular basis, aged between 12 and 25. Their cultural backgrounds include Burmese / Myanmarese (majority), East African, West African, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian and others.
